Courses in automobile mechanics

The following four courses have been specially developed by the CPA Montréal in collaboration with Emploi-Québec to help 3rd-year apprentice automobile mechanics to put their skills up to date before their professional qualification exam. Each course deals with essential subjects in the field:

Course: Power Train (duration 45 hours)

  • Common features
  • The disc clutch
  • The manual transmission
  • Differential and transfer case
  • Suspension system components
  • Suspension
  • Steering system
  • Transmission drive shafts and axle shafts
  • Transmission assembly repair

Course: Brakes (duration 12 hours)

  • Braking problems
  • Antilock brake systems
  • Inspecting and repairing the braking system

Course: Internal Combustion Engines (duration 45 hours)

  • Operation and characteristics of the internal combustion engine
  • Description and operation of the cylinder block and its components
  • Description of the cylinder head and its components
  • Lubrication and cooling systems
  • Diagnosing the mechanical condition of an engine prior to disassembly
  • Engine inspection and repair
  • Engine reassembly and verification

Course: Electricity and Supply System (duration 45 hours)

  • Principles of electricity and measuring instruments
  • Electrical circuits
  • Electrical and electronic components
  • Charging system
  • Starting system
  • Fuel supply system
  • Charging systems
  • Starting and fuel supply systems repair

These courses are open to 3rd-year apprentice automobile mechanics working within the jurisdiction of the CPA Montréal. Before registering, they can complete the self-evaluation test and submit it to the Training Department that will be able to guide them in preparing for the exam and make sure they are aware of their training needs.

Note These courses can also be useful for already qualified workers who wish to update their skills in one or more modules. The self-evaluation test is an excellent way for them to gauge their knowledge before registering for a qualification exam.
