Admission requirements for qualification

Applicants must immediately visit the CPA Montréal's office when starting employment in a governed trade that requires qualification. The Qualification and Training Department will then register their admission form, compile the different stages of their training and evaluate their experience.

Applicants must provide the following documents:

SOCIAL INSURANCE NUMBER CARD

The Social Insurance Number is an integral part of the professional qualification file at the CPA Montréal. Applicants must produce their Social Insurance Number card when applying for a competency card.

ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE (COPIES ARE NOT ACCEPTED)

The birth certificate is required as a piece of identification. It attests that the applicant meets the minimum age to be accepted into apprenticeship.

Applicants who are naturalized Canadian citizens must provide their citizenship card.

Applicants who are permanent residents must provide their passport and visa or their permanent resident card.

Applicants who are refugees must provide a work permit obtained from Immigration Canada.

CERTIFICATE OR ATTESTATION OF EDUCATION (APPRENTICE ONLY)

Applicants for an apprentice mechanic or apprentice electrician competency card must provide evidence of having completed the second year of secondary school. Other trades in the automobile services industry require the completion of the first year of secondary school.

Applicants must provide an authenticated proof of schooling. No copies are accepted.

In certain cases, applicants may have to provide a "certificate of equivalency" issued by the Ministère des communautés culturelles.

Candidates having completed the Diploma of Vocational Studies or D.E.P. for the trade for which they are applying could be awarded apprenticeship credits. However, they must provide a diploma or certificate of education and meet the admission requirements of the CPA Montréal.
