VACATION (PAID ANNUAL LEAVE)

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

1.    Employer

  • You have to grant vacations to your employees based on the number of years of continuous service they have earned at the end of the reference year. 

How to calculate holidays :

  • The calculation is based on the total earnings accumulated during the reference year.
  • Less than 1 year of service = 4% (1 day per month of service; maximum 10 days)

As of :

  • 1 year of service = 4% (2 weeks)
  • 3 years of service = 6% (3 weeks)
  • 15 years of service = 8% (4 weeks)
  • The employee has the right to be informed of his or her vacation at least 4 weeks in advance.

2.   Employee

You are entitled to vacation based on the number of years of continuous service you have on April 30 of each year.

  • Less than 1 year of service = 4% (1 day per month of service; maximum 10 days)

As of :

  • 1 year of service = 4% (2 weeks)
  • 3 years of service = 6% (3 weeks)
  • 15 years of service = 8% (4 weeks)
  • You have the right to be informed of the date of your holiday at least 4 weeks before the start of your holiday.
  • You must receive your vacation pay in one lump sum at the beginning of the vacation.

3.   What is a reference year:

  • It is the period during which the employee acquires the holiday entitlement.
  • It runs from May 1 to April 30 of each year.
